York Time Bank

Can you timebank that?

A quick clarification on what is and is not time bankable on this mutual aid platform: Exchanges of TIME are time bankable — the time spent exchanging skills or services between time bank members.

Both parties in an exchange MUST be members of the time bank in order for an exchange of services to be time bankable. Time bank members can be individuals, community groups, or specific community projects.

Exchanges of products are not handled by the time bank.

So, for example:

A time bank member who is a potter offering their service as a potter to make customized pottery.
The clay, glazes, and other physical materials used to make the pottery would be paid for with money, and is a transaction between those time bank members and does not take place on the time bank platform.

A time bank member who has construction skills offering their services to build a set of shelves.
Time bank credits can be used for the time designing the shelves, sourcing materials, and building the shelves, etc. The materials used would be paid for with money, and is a transaction between those time bank members and does not take place on the time bank platform.

A time bank member offering web design skills to build a website.
Time bank credits can be used for the time spent designing, writing, setting up the site, sourcing and editing photos, etc. The digital materials such as web hosting services, domain registration, etc. would be paid for with money, and is a transaction between those time bank members and does not take place on the time bank platform.

A time bank member offering to make blankets or masks for a community project.
Time bank credits can be used for the time spent designing, producing, cleaning, and distributing the blankets or masks, etc. The fabric or other materials purchased or donated to produce the blankets or masks are not an exchange that takes place on the platform.

The time bank is a mutual aid platform to enable the exchange of skills and services between time bank members, using only the measurement of time.

Time banking is not barter, and time bank members may not exchange time for products, only time.
